Dollar Store Clerk Shoots And Kills Armed Robber, Grieving Family Demand Justice

In October 2019, 23-year-old Roosevelt Rappley was shot during an attempted robbery at a Dollar General store on North Gettysburg Avenue in Dayton, Ohio. The incident began around 6:20 p.m. when Rappley entered the store armed and demanded money. An employee, who was also armed, confronted him and shot Rappley in self-defense. Rappley then exited the store but collapsed outside and later died.

Police were already familiar with Rappley, who had a pending weapons charge and was possibly linked to other commercial robberies in the area. Witnesses confirmed Rappley pointed his gun at employees, and according to a 911 call, he fired back during the confrontation. The exact number of shots fired remains under investigation.

Dollar General did not disclose their policy on armed employees but stated they have safety procedures in place and are cooperating with authorities. Police confirmed the employee was legally armed on private property and surveillance footage from the store has not been released.
