Reazjhana Williams arrived at a Denver hospital in June 2021, excited to give birth naturally. But when doctors couldn’t find her baby’s heartbeat, she was rushed into an emergency C-section.

To her shock, her newborn daughter, Kyanni, had a deep cut across her face, requiring 13 stitches. Reazjhana didn’t get to hold her baby; instead, Kyanni was immediately taken to a plastic surgeon.

Doctors explained that Kyanni’s head was positioned close to the placenta wall during surgery, which led to the injury. Denver Health called it a known risk of emergency C-sections and said they’ve been in contact with the family.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $11,000 to help with medical costs.
