The little girl’s brother passed away last week and her mother remains in hospital.

A tragedy in Brazil has shocked the nation after a 13-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother died from eating poisoned Easter chocolates. The treats, given to their mother Mirian Lira by Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, were laced with poison in an alleged act of revenge.

Mirian, who also fell ill but survived, unknowingly shared the chocolates with her kids. Police arrested Barbosa, accusing her of targeting Mirian out of jealousy over a former boyfriend. Surveillance footage shows Barbosa in disguise buying the eggs. While she admits purchasing them, she denies poisoning them.

Authorities say this was a premeditated attack, highlighting the devastating consequences of hatred and revenge.
