Not all alcoholics hit rock bottom. ๐บ๐ณ
High-functioning alcoholics are individuals who are dependent on alcohol but still manage to function in daily life, maintaining jobs, social activities, and relationships. Unlike the stereotypical image of an alcoholic, they can appear successful and are often overlooked by family and friends due to their ability to perform normal tasks.
However, high-functioning alcoholics may consume as much alcohol as those with alcohol use disorder but show no signs of intoxication because they have developed a high tolerance. This leads them to deny their issue, often saying things like, “How can I be addicted if I have a steady job?”
Despite their outward success, excessive alcohol consumption can lead to severe health problems such as liver, kidney, and pancreas damage, as well as mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Denial, coping through alcohol, and justification of their drinking are common signs.
Treatment options such as detox, therapy, support groups, and medications can help individuals address their alcohol dependency.
