For most, food means nourishment and pleasure. But in many parts of the world, some meals can be lethal. Here are some of the most dangerous foods people still consume—and why.

**1. Cassava – Cyanide Risk**
A vital food for 800+ million people, cassava contains cyanide if eaten raw or poorly processed. When prepared correctly, it’s safe—but otherwise, it can cause paralysis or death.

**2. Fugu (Pufferfish) – Highly Toxic**
A Japanese delicacy, fugu contains a poison 200x deadlier than cyanide. Only licensed chefs can prepare it safely. One mistake, and it’s deadly—there’s no antidote.

**3. Starfruit – Neurotoxic to Kidney Patients**
Safe for healthy people, but deadly for those with kidney disease. Its neurotoxins can cause seizures, confusion, and even death.

**4. Cherry Pits & Apple Seeds – Contain Cyanide**
The fruit is safe, but crushed pits or seeds release cyanide. Swallowed whole? No harm. Crushed? Potentially fatal.

**5. Green Potatoes – Solanine Poisoning**
When exposed to light, potatoes turn green and produce solanine, a toxin that can cause nausea, paralysis, or coma. Peel or toss green ones.

**6. Raw Cashews – Toxic Like Poison Ivy**
Raw cashews have urushiol—the same irritant in poison ivy. Grocery store versions are heat-treated and safe to eat.

**7. Nutmeg – Natural Hallucinogen**
Too much nutmeg (just 2 tsp) can cause hallucinations, seizures, or psychosis. In small doses, it’s a festive spice—in large ones, a toxic trip.
