Katie Piper recently revealed on Instagram that she’s begun wearing a prosthetic eye shell, following years of complications from a horrific acid attack in 2008.

At just 24, Katie’s ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch arranged the attack, hiring someone to throw sulphuric acid on her. The assault left her with severe burns and required over 400 surgeries. Lynch was jailed for life.

Despite the trauma, Katie rebuilt her life—becoming a TV presenter, author, and advocate for burn survivors, and was later awarded an OBE for her work.

At the end of 2023, Katie shared she was facing worsening issues with her left eye, including an infection and a defect that was hard to treat. Now, at 41, she’s chosen to move forward with a prosthetic.

“This marks the start of a journey,” she wrote, thanking the medical teams supporting her. She added that she’s both “hopeful and nervous” and welcomed advice from others who’ve had similar experiences.

Katie continues to inspire with her courage and openness—wishing her all the best on this new chapter.
