On April 10, a tragic helicopter crash occurred in the Hudson River near Lower Manhattan. A Bell 206 aircraft, carrying six people—including Agustín Escobar, president of Siemens Spain, and his family—crashed shortly after taking off from the Wall Street Heliport. The crash, which occurred around 3:15 p.m., is believed to have been caused by the aircraft running out of fuel.

Escobar and his family, who had just arrived in New York that day, were on a sightseeing tour when the disaster struck. The pilot also died in the crash, and authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the family members.

Witnesses described the crash as harrowing, with one saying the helicopter seemed to “split in half” before plummeting into the water. Emergency responders found the helicopter submerged, and all six bodies were recovered.

Investigations by the FAA and NTSB are ongoing, with fuel depletion a central focus. The tragedy has raised concerns about safety in New York’s aerial tour industry, which has faced previous accidents. The Escobar family’s loss has deeply affected both Spain and New York, with international condolences pouring in.
