Scientists warn our days are literally getting shorter, and itโs not just about clocks ๐ฎ ๐ Check below to see what it could mean for our lives
The shortest day of the year is coming soon, and scientists say Earth is spinning faster than ever โ for reasons unknown.
Earth usually takes 365 rotations to complete a year, but this has changed throughout history. Factors like the Moonโs distance, Earthโs core activity, and sea levels affect its rotation.
Recently, Earthโs spin has mysteriously sped up. Scientists predict July 9, 22, or August 5 might be record-breaking, with days up to 1.51 milliseconds shorter.
While small, this could impact GPS and timekeeping. Some believe internal Earth changes are behind it. Earthquakes, like the 2011 Japan quake, can shift mass and speed up rotation.
Despite the current acceleration, scientists expect Earth will eventually slow down againโthey just donโt know when.
