Hannah Glass, a 19-year-old college freshman from Wisconsin, tragically passed away just days after her birthday due to an unexpected allergic reaction to a brownie containing roasted peanut flour. Known for being careful about her severe peanut allergy, Hannah unknowingly consumed the gluten-free treat given to her by a friend, unaware of its dangerous ingredient.
Her reaction was immediate—vomiting, hives, and shortness of breath—even after taking Benadryl. While trying to rest, Hannah’s condition worsened as an anaphylactic reaction collapsed her lung. She became unresponsive before her EpiPen could be administered. Despite rapid emergency care and transfer to a hospital, she suffered irreversible brain damage.
On November 10, 2024, Hannah was honored with an “Honor Walk” as her organs were donated, saving the lives of four people. Her parents, David and Janean Glass, have since spoken publicly, urging everyone with allergies to stay alert, keep medications updated, and ask questions—even with seemingly safe foods.
Hannah’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of food allergy awareness, especially in environments like schools and social groups. Her legacy lives on through those she saved and the powerful message her life and loss continue to spread.
