A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Julian, California, late Monday night, shaking much of Southern California—including San Diego and parts of Los Angeles, nearly 120 miles away. The quake hit around 11:23 p.m. and caused windows to rattle and furniture to shift, though it lasted only a few seconds.

No injuries or major damage were reported, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The quake originated about 8 miles deep, making its impact stronger at the surface.

Many residents received a ShakeAlert warning roughly five seconds before the shaking began—enough time to take basic safety measures. Authorities praised the system as potentially life-saving.

Officials are monitoring for aftershocks and urging residents to update their emergency plans, as California remains one of the world’s most earthquake-prone regions.
