Austin Metcalf, a 17-year-old student, was fatally stabbed during a school track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025. Karmelo Anthony, also 17 at the time, has been charged with first-degree murder. He admitted to the stabbing but claims he acted in self-defense.

According to police, a fight broke out after Karmelo was asked to leave a tent during a rainstorm. Witnesses say he pulled out a knife after being grabbed by Austin. The fatal wound pierced Austin’s heart, and he died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter.

Karmelo was indicted by a Collin County grand jury in June and released on house arrest. Because of his age, he is not eligible for the death penalty or life without parole.
