She was drowning and no one noticed…👇
A Canadian community is in mourning after 14-year-old Blessing Claude Moukoko drowned during a school swimming class in Montreal on February 15, 2024. The eighth-grade student was submerged in the deep end of the pool for **38 minutes** before anyone noticed his absence. CPR was performed and he was rushed to the hospital, but after six days in a coma, Moukoko passed away due to severe brain damage.
The coroner’s investigation revealed major failures in safety and supervision. It emphasized that school swim programs must focus more on **water safety and drowning prevention**, not just technique. The report called for stronger supervision, mandatory safety drills, and better training for instructors.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante called the incident “heartbreaking” and stressed the urgent need for reform in how swimming lessons are managed in schools.
Blessing’s death has sparked national outrage and demands for action, with hopes that his story will lead to critical changes that protect all students in the future.
