A tragic Air India crash occurred Thursday morning when a Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for London’s Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing all 242 people on board. The plane went down in a densely populated area, hitting a medical college hostel and causing a massive explosion.

Among the victims were 53 British nationals, one Canadian, and over 160 Indian citizens. Authorities fear additional casualties on the ground.

This is the first fatal crash involving a Boeing 787. Boeing has pledged support and expressed condolences.
