Beloved country musician and satirist Richard “Kinky” Friedman passed away in late June at his home in Echo Hill Ranch, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. He was 79.
Known for his wit and bold personality, Friedman battled Parkinson’s disease in his final years but never lost his spirit. He first gained fame in the 1970s with his band *Kinky Friedman and The Texas Jewboys* and memorable songs like *They Ain’t Makin’ Jews Like Jesus Anymore*.
Friedman also pursued politics, running for Texas governor in 2006 and later for agriculture commissioner.
He released 18 albums, the last being *Circus of Life* in 2018.
**Rest in peace, Kinky.**
