Dad Fatally Beats Man Who Followed His Daughter Into Restroom, Learns Fate

In a 2018 incident that gained national attention, 41-year-old Melvin Harris from Phoenix pleaded guilty to manslaughter after fatally attacking a man who reportedly tried to enter his daughter’s locked bathroom stall.

Harris had gone to a QT gas station to pick up his daughter. After she told him about the man’s disturbing behavior, Harris confronted the security guard and then took matters into his own hands.

Witnesses said Harris struck Leon Armstrong, knocking him to the ground and continuing to beat him. Armstrong later died from a brain injury.

Originally charged with second-degree murder, Harris ultimately accepted a plea deal for manslaughter. His sentencing was scheduled for December 13, 2019.
