If You See A ‘Bleach’ Patch On Your Underwear, Here’s What It Means
Many women notice strange light patches or discoloration on their underwear after washing, but it’s not caused by detergent or the washing machine. According to a female obstetrician-gynecologist known as “The Vag Doc” on TikTok, this bleaching effect comes from the natural acidity of vaginal discharge.
The vagina maintains a healthy, acidic environment thanks to good bacteria like lactobacilli. This acidity helps keep infections away but can also strip dye from fabric over time, causing lighter patches.

This is perfectly normal and often means your vaginal pH is healthy. Some women don’t see this effect because their discharge may be less acidic, and fabric type or dye can also influence bleaching.
However, if you notice unusual changes in discharge—such as a bad smell, different color, or texture—medical advice should be sought. But regular bleaching of underwear fabric? Just your body doing its natural job.
