**Heat Risks Are Rising—Indoors and Out**

Health experts warn that 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. is the most dangerous time for sun exposure, with high UV levels and temperatures increasing the risk of heatstroke and dehydration—especially for kids, seniors, and those with health conditions.

But staying indoors no longer guarantees safety. Overheating in UK homes has jumped from 18% in 2011 to 80% in 2022, due to poor insulation in older homes and heat-trapping designs in newer ones. This leads to sleepless nights, breathing issues, and more hospital visits.

To cope, more homes are installing air conditioning—now in 21% of households. But AC increases energy demand and emissions, worsening climate change. It’s also expensive, leaving low-income families, renters, and vulnerable people at greater risk with few options to stay cool.

Without action, rising heat will continue to hit the most vulnerable the hardest.
