Transgender dad outraged after revealing word nurses used to refer to him while giving birth – check comments 👇🏻👀
Bennett Kaspar-Williams, a non-binary transmasculine parent from Los Angeles, carried and gave birth to his son Hudson in 2020—but his experience was clouded by repeated misgendering in the medical system.
Despite identifying as male and marking “male” on medical forms, hospital staff consistently referred to him as “mom,” ignoring his pronouns and gender identity. “The only thing that made me dysphoric about my pregnancy was the misgendering,” Bennett said.
Bennett began his transition in 2014 and paused testosterone to conceive. Though he had top surgery, he had not undergone any lower-body procedures and felt at peace carrying his child. His journey challenges long-held associations between gender and parenthood.
He now advocates for inclusive language in pregnancy care and a broader understanding that **not all who give birth are women—and not all women become mothers**.
“This idea that motherhood equals womanhood is outdated,” Bennett said. “It’s time we respect and affirm every person’s identity—especially in healthcare.”
