Bed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects that feed on blood but don’t spread disease. They hide in beds and furniture during the day and come out at night. They can hitch rides in luggage, clothes, and used furniture, making infestations easy to start and hard to eliminate.
To prevent them, inspect used items, avoid placing luggage on beds or floors in hotels, and wash clothes after travel. Signs of infestation include live bugs, shed skins, droppings, or blood stains on sheets.
Control requires cleaning clutter, vacuuming regularly, using hot dryers for bedding, sealing cracks, and possibly using EPA-approved pesticides. Hiring experienced pest control is recommended for severe cases. While dealing with bed bugs can be exhausting, they’re more of a nuisance than a health risk—and prevention goes a long way.
