If you wake up in the middle of the night, resist the urge to check your phone or the time. Sleep experts warn this can increase stress and make it harder to fall back asleep. The light and stimulation from your phone can keep your brain too alert.

Instead, if you’re still awake after 10–15 minutes, get out of bed and do something calming—like reading in low light—until you feel sleepy again. Experts say lying in bed awake trains your brain to associate your bed with wakefulness, not rest. Accept being awake, avoid stress, and let your body ease back into sleep naturally.
