The human body constantly changes, and sometimes those changes can be surprising. One example is the appearance of small white bumps on the lips or private parts, known as Fordyce spots. Around 70–80% of adults have them, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Fordyce spots are simply enlarged oil glands, often becoming more noticeable after puberty. They’re harmless, not contagious, and not related to STDs or cancer. While they often go away on their own, treatments like retinoid creams, cryotherapy, or laser therapy can help if desired.

Though usually easy to identify, if you notice new bumps, it’s smart to check with a healthcare provider just to be safe.
