In January 2019, 20-year-old Dion Lamar Taylor died after being struck by a Baltimore County police car while fleeing a carjacking. Taylor, along with two other suspects, had carjacked a pizza delivery driver before leading police on a chase. During the pursuit, a handgun was thrown from the car and later recovered. The suspects jumped from the vehicle and ran, with one officer unintentionally hitting Taylor with their cruiser.

Taylor’s mother, Teisha Cook, expressed her grief and frustration, insisting that her son was not a criminal. “He was a homebody,” she said. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Taron Kelly was arrested and charged with armed robbery and other offenses. A third suspect remains at large. Baltimore City police are investigating the incident, and the officer involved was placed on administrative leave.
