Michelle Saaiman from Namibia thought her 16-month-old son, Juwan, had a simple eye infection. But after it worsened, doctors confirmed something shocking: Juwan had contracted herpes in his cornea, likely from a kiss by someone with a cold sore.

The virus caused severe damage. His cornea deteriorated, leaving him blind in one eye, with a 4mm hole where his eye had “melted away.” Doctors feared he might lose the eye completely.

Juwan underwent surgery in Cape Town, and while the herpes has been somewhat contained, his parents are now preparing for another complex operation to restore some vision.

Michelle is speaking out to raise awareness: even a small gesture like a kiss can carry serious risks to a child’s health.

“Whoever kissed him didn’t mean harm,” she said, “but it changed everything.”

This story is a powerful reminder—love should never come with hidden dangers.
