Modern toilets feature dual flush systems with two buttons or levers: a smaller one for liquid waste and a larger one for solid waste. The smaller flush uses 3 to 4.5 liters of water, while the larger one uses 6 to 9 liters.

Switching to dual flush can save a household up to 20,000 liters of water annually, reducing both water bills and environmental impact. The concept was introduced by designer Victor Papanek in 1976 and first used in Australia in 1980.

Next time, choose the smaller flush for liquid waste and the larger one for solids to conserve water efficiently.
