With heavy hearts, we report the sad news about the multi-talented actress Kathy Bates… – Check the comments π
Award-winning actress Kathy Bates, 75, is known for her powerful roles in Misery and American Horror Story. But her most inspiring role might be off-screenβas a two-time cancer survivor and advocate for lymphedema awareness.
After battling ovarian cancer in 2003 and breast cancer in 2012, Bates underwent a double mastectomy and had lymph nodes removed. That led to lymphedema, a painful, incurable condition causing fluid buildup and swelling.
Bates admits the diagnosis devastated her: βI thought my career was over.β But with help from a specialist, she found purpose in advocacy. Now the national spokesperson for the Lymphatic Education & Research Network, she spreads awareness about a condition affecting 10 million Americansβmore than ALS, MS, and Parkinsonβs combined.
βI didnβt want cancerβ¦ or lymphedema,β she said. βBut I feel blessed because I can use my platform to help others.β
Her courage and honesty continue to inspire fans worldwide.
