On January 29, a devastating crash occurred between an American Airlines plane and a Black Hawk helicopter over Washington, D.C., resulting in a national tragedy. Authorities fear the death toll has risen above 60, with search and recovery operations ongoing in the Potomac River. So far, 28 bodies have been recovered.

Among the confirmed victims is 26-year-old Spencer Lane, a member of the U.S. figure skating team, who had shared a final post on social media before the flight. Other members of the skating team were also believed to be on board.

DC Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly announced that the operation has shifted from rescue to recovery, with no expected survivors. The collision occurred as the plane approached Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Investigators are examining the black boxes to determine the cause of the collision.

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom and President Donald Trump expressed their condolences, with Trump emphasizing that the incident “should have been prevented.”
