Losing a child is every parent’s worst fear. Laura Hillier’s family faced this heartbreak when she passed away from acute myeloid leukemia on January 20, 2016, at just 18.
Laura, a talented and beloved student from Nelson High School in Ontario, fought leukemia from the age of 13, overcoming it once before the disease returned aggressively. Despite her courage, she passed surrounded by loved ones.
In a touching tribute, Lauraβs classmates and teachers transformed her casket into a heartfelt canvas filled with handwritten messages of love and admiration. Notes from friends, family, and hospital staff covered the entire surface, honoring her memory.
Purple, her favorite color, adorned the church and guests’ clothing during the funeral, symbolizing the vibrant spirit Laura brought to those who knew her.
Rest in peace, Laura.
