Seven people, including a child, died and dozens were injured in a bus crash on a Mississippi highway early Saturday, Aug. 31. The 2018 Volvo bus, carrying 47 passengers, suffered a tire blowout on I-20 Westbound near the Bovina exit, causing it to overturn.

Six victims died at the scene, and one passed away at the hospital, including an 8-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. Over 30 others were hospitalized.

Vicksburg Fire Department Chief Derrick Stamps praised the rescue efforts and the community’s teamwork, thanking Merit Health for its support in managing the emergency.
