I’m a single mom working as a cashier when a woman in designer clothes with her kids came to my register. She rudely asked, “Why aren’t you smiling?” and laughed, saying, “I’d have that face too if I earned so little. Loser.”

Just as I handed her the last bag, karma struck. Her purse slipped, spilling cash and cards everywhere. Her kids laughed, and while she bent down to pick things up, her high heel snapped, causing her to stumble.

The line was silent, and someone muttered, “Guess even designer stuff can’t fix that attitude.” She limped out, avoiding eye contact, leaving behind her dignity—and respect. Karma did its thing, and I didn’t even have to try.
