During a harsh winter in Chicago, electric vehicle (EV) owners faced a major challenge as frigid temperatures caused their EVs to struggle at Tesla supercharger stations. The cold slowed down charging speeds and reduced battery range, leading to long lines and abandoned cars. Some owners expressed frustration, with one saying, “Still on zero percent.”
The issue was worsened by the need for EVs to precondition their batteries to accept a fast charge in extreme cold. Experts suggested this could be solved with some preparation, but the cold weather still caused delays, with some owners spending hours waiting for a charge.
Despite the difficulties, EV enthusiasts are adapting, learning to cope with winter’s impact on their vehicles while remaining committed to a greener future.
